GENIUS®90 at a glance

Function

The core of the GENIUS®90 dialysis machine is a thermally insulated glass container with a capacity of 90 liters. Before each treatment, this glass container is filled with ready-to-use dialysis fluid, which can be varied individually and meets the highest hygienic requirements. This feature, together with its high mobility, allows efficient treatment at any treatment site in an intensive care unit. This is independent of the presence of further installations at the dialysis station for permeate, central concentrate supply or waste water. During treatment, blood and dialysis fluid are demanded to the dialyzer via the peristaltic pump.

The used dialysis fluid is returned to the glass container through a glass distribution tube, underlaying the fresh dialysis fluid. This always remains separated from the used dialysis fluid during the entire treatment due to physical effects such as density and temperature differences.

Therapy

The GENIUS® therapy system enables the following therapy procedures to be carried out efficiently in the intensive care area:

Intermittent hemodialysis (iHD).

Rapid treatment with high effectiveness over a short period of time

Slow extended daily dialysis (SLEDD)

Extended therapy duration (e.g. 8 to 12 hours) which can be performed with lower blood flow rates

Daily use is possible

Can be considered a middle ground between continuous and intermittent procedures.

Slow continuous ultrafiltration (SCUF)

Therapy system

The GENIUS® Therapy System utilizes operating procedures that inherently optimize dialysis treatment in the ICU. Pre- and post-treatment of the GENIUS® 90 dialysis machine is performed at a central location, e.g. in a separate room. This results in more peace and quiet in the treatment room, which is beneficial for patients and users. Treatment can be performed at any treatment station in the intensive care unit.

The permeate required to fill and coil the GENIUS® 90 dialysis units is provided by reverse osmosis after appropriate pretreatment. Prior to treatment, the glass tank of the GENIUS® 90 dialysis machine is filled at the preparator with the dialysis fluid ready for use by adding concentrates.

After treatment, the glass tank of the GENIUS® 90 dialysis machine is emptied and disinfected at the preparator. After the disinfectant has taken effect, the machine is ready for the next treatment.
